Habitat for Humanity Hobbs Facts
- Habitat for Humanity Hobbs (HFHH) was formed in 1998.
- The goal of HFHH is to eliminate poverty housing in Hobbs.
- HFHH is able to build homes for a selected family because of community-donated labor and
materials, in addition to the 'sweat equity' (credit for their labor) provided by the selected family.
- HFHH has completed fifteen homes in Hobbs, and hopes to begin on three blocks recently acquired through a generous grant from the J. F Maddox Foundation.
- The HFHH family selection committee holds periodic public meetings throughout the year inviting
those interested to submit an application. Families, seniors, single persons, or disabled persons
can apply for a Habitat home.
- $25,500 is the maximum income allowed for a family of four; $10,000 is the minimum income.
- Funding grants and donated land further expedite many home projects.
- Each selected family participates in the building process by working 250-500 hours of
'sweat equity' on their own home.
- No interest is charged and no profit is included in the sale of Habitat homes to families.
- Habitat for Humanity of Hobbs also helps raise property values and increase the local tax base by constrcution homes on what are now empty lots.
